SUMMARY (resumé)

A summary is a short and clear presentation of the text.
A good summary shows that you have grasped the essence of the text.

In order to make a good summary you must keep following points in mind:

o       Your reader/listener does not know the text and the summary must therefore make sense on its own.

o       The following questions must be answered:

ü    Who             (Main characters)

ü    Where

ü    When

ü    What             (Important events/situations)

Save the how and why question for the analysis.

o       Be objective. No personal comments.

o       Do not use whole sentences and phrases from the text. Use your own language.

o       Stick to one tense.

o       You may use the same chronology as the text or you may start at any point in the text.
